FU License for Films v1.0 — For Filmmakers

What is FU License for Films?

FU License for Films allows you to explicitly authorize full-length reaction videos for your film.

Instead of relying on uncertain fair use arguments, you can grant permission in advance through a clear and public licence. This gives reaction creators confidence that they can feature your film without fear of takedowns, demonetization, or disputes, provided they follow the licence requirements.

The goal is simple: make it easier for independent films to benefit from reaction culture.

Why would I use FU Films?

Independent filmmakers face a discoverability problem.

Modern tools have dramatically reduced the cost of production. Small teams and solo creators can now create ambitious films, animations, and music videos that would have been impossible a decade ago.

Marketing remains much harder.

Reaction channels already function as one of the internet’s most effective discovery systems. They introduce audiences to new work, create discussion, and generate social proof. However, many reaction creators are understandably reluctant to invest time in a project if there is a risk of copyright claims or licensing uncertainty.

FU Films is designed to remove that uncertainty.

By releasing a film under FU Films, you are signalling:
“You may react to this film in full. I want reaction culture to help this work find an audience.”

What do I need to do?

1. Own or control the rights

You should own or control the rights necessary to release the film under FU Films. This includes:

2. Avoid Content ID conflicts

A film is only truly reaction-friendly if reactors can watch it without being hit by automated copyright systems. For that reason, you should avoid using:

Many FU filmmakers will choose either:

What do reaction creators have to do?

Reaction creators receive broad permissions, but they must still follow the licence.

In summary, they must:

The detailed requirements appear in the Core Terms and the Reaction Channel Guide.

What do I gain?

Discoverability

Reaction channels help audiences find work they would never have discovered otherwise.

Social Proof

A reaction video becomes a public artefact associated with your film.

Future viewers can see that people are discussing the work, debating it, and engaging with it.

Reduced Friction

Reaction creators do not need to ask permission individually.

The licence provides a clear framework that everyone can rely upon.

A Cleaner Music Pipeline

When combined with FU Music A, filmmakers gain access to a growing pool of music that is designed specifically for independent productions and reaction-friendly distribution.

Can I change my mind later?

You can choose not to use the FU Films license for future projects.

However, rights already granted under FU Films are intended to be permanent. However, rights already granted under FU Films are intended to be permanent.

If a reaction creator complied with the licence, their rights continue even if you later stop participating in the ecosystem.

This permanence is intentional. The licence is designed to provide certainty for everyone involved.
